Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated (ΦΒΣ) is a historically African American Greek letter fraternity founded on January 9, 1914, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The fraternity’s founders, A. Langston Taylor, Leonard F. Morse, and Charles I. Brown, aimed to establish a Greek letter fraternity that embodied the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service while adopting an inclusive approach to community service, rather than an exclusive purpose.

The Gamma Phi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded on March 18, 1957, in San Francisco by brothers Richard H. Hogg, L.T. Allen, Cicil Finley, Reverend Frederick D. Haines, Homer A. Lee, George A. McQuilliter, Reverend Joseph S. Pough, and Alfred C. Simmons. Their goal was to support the community through the fraternity's core values of brotherhood, scholarship, and service.

The chapter has maintained a strong commitment to these principles since its inception, fostering camaraderie, academic excellence, and a sense of duty. The motto "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity" guides their efforts, and the chapter has implemented various initiatives to make a positive impact through community outreach, education, and philanthropy. Ultimately, the Gamma Phi Sigma Chapter is a symbol of brotherhood, leadership, and service, dedicated to making a lasting difference in their community.
